Senior Living Facilities are Getting Seniors Involved
People are always looking for something or someone new, whether you are a bachelor in your twenties who recently moved to a new town looking for a place to go at night, a new mom looking for other moms to have a play date with or a senior looking for friends with the same interests, everyone is trying to stay involved.
It is more difficult to stay involved when you are a senior living alone in a development of young families. Moving into a senior living community can help!
Senior facilities coordinators know what activities seniors enjoy and which ones are beneficial to their residents, therefore they offer many different options.
Gardening – A great outdoor activity that many seniors enjoy. Planting flowers and growing fresh vegetables has seniors using their hands and working with the dirt – very therapeutic.
Dancing – Yes, seniors still enjoy dancing. It is a great way to interact and meet others in their community. There are many forms of dancing to choose from – ballroom dancing, swing dancing, line dancing or just feeling the rhythm of the music. Not only is dancing fun, but it releases endorphins and keeps seniors healthy.
Field Trips – These are not just for elementary school students, seniors enjoy them too! Whether the field trip is to the local Walmart, a local theater or a minor league baseball game field trips keep seniors feeling alive and keeps them active
Classes – It is never too late to learn something new. Many communities offer classes in knitting, quilting, technology, social media, etc. And if seniors ask, most likely they can start a new class or workshop at their request.
Special Events – Holiday festivals, engagement parties or residents anniversary parties and game nights. Again, ask your local community events planner to host a specific special event and they should be able to make it happen.
There are so many ways to stay involved in your senior living community other than those listed above. If there is something we missed, please share with us the way that you like to stay involved in your senior community.
